Slices Pizza Review

Who: Slices Pizza

What: Drive-thru pizza parlor

Where: 7155 East Hampden Avenue, Denver, CO 80224

When: Monday – Saturday: 11am – 8pm, Sunday: 4pm – 8pm

Why: One of my favorite junk food splurges is pizza. The mozzarella, the sauce, the dough; my inner Italian can’t help herself. Usually when I eat pizza, it has to be Freshetta: it’s frozen with all fresh ingredients and no preservatives. But when I order out, I love stuffed crust from Pizza Hut or any other local pizza joint.

Luckily for me, right next to my hotel in Denver, there was a locally-owned pizza place that also served salad and cake balls! They even delivered the pizza to my hotel. The delivery guy I believe was one of the owners and he is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. If you ever order from Slices in Denver, make sure you tip that guy nicely not only for the superb food, but for extremely genuine service.

In addition to the pleasant staff, the pizza, salad, and cake balls I ordered were some of the best I’ve had in a while. The pizza wasn’t greasy or oily, the cheese was melted perfectly, the crust was crunchy, and the sauce was the perfect blend of spices. It’s an 18” XL pizza so it definitely lasts through a few people but they also offer gluten free options and meatballs. They also have a lot of options as far as toppings and favorite pizza’s go.

As for the salad, it was fresh and a nice change of pace to have with junk food pizza. Out of everything though, the cake balls were the best. I haven’t had cake balls that moist or chocolaty before and I would have ordered more had I stayed more days.

Another great point about this local pizzeria is their fair prices. $1.25 for cake balls (plural!) that pretty much begs you to order them. Especially for competing with the franchises and other well-known pizza places, I think the pricing is spot on and you really get more than what you pay for. Slices is a little bit outside of Denver but it’s certainly worth the drive if you’re craving crunchy dough and hot, non-dripping-with-grease pizza.

I think Slices is a brilliant example of a local eatery. They have one location, they’re locally-owned and operated, they give back to the community and support non-profit organizations, and they discount their food for charities, schools, and numerous other groups. Oh yeah, and did I mention they’re a drive thru! You can actually get drive thru pizza now that tastes way better than chains and has splendid service! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a drive thru pizza place before, local or not. It’s worth the drive just to visit the drive thru but also have some scrumptious pizza, divine cake balls, and healthy salad. I plan to re-visit Slices on my next trip to Denver and hopefully, use the fun drive thru.
